Farewell Dennis Ritchie

Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson

Dennis Ritchie, the father of "C" Language and key contributor to UNIX OS passed away after a long illness. It's been a sad month for IT world as Steve Jobs died a week ago.

Dennis was an American computer scientist that has a claim to fame for his C programming language along with Ken Thompson. Dennis and Ken were the pioneers in modern computing as they created the UNIX operating system.

Thank you sir Dennis, you made my life beautiful, exciting and challenging. Salute sir! Rest in peace.  If you have not created the C, we might not have the java, php, c#, etc..

Remembering 10.10.10

Exactly one year ago, the Philippines has broken a world record as the largest number of participants in a foot race after 116,000 runners joined the historic 10.10.10, a fun run for a cause to save the Pasig River.
Masasabi kong part ako ng history na ito dahil isa ako logistics team ng event. Marami kaming meetings and trainings na ginawa for this event.  The hardships of planning how can we assist well the 100 thousand plus people to place their bags in our behalf from the starting point and transfer it into the finish line. Even though we did not participated at the run (but I can say that we (Marel, JM, Mike and I) join the run as our bus left us in the Star City, so we decided to jog/walk to MOA.), I'm very honored that I helped the pasig river in every way as I can.

October 10, 2010, Sunday, 1 in the morning, We gather at our office in Times Plaza. We have some time to prepare for the event as we will go to our designated place at 2 am. We have some chit chats and make most of the time talking on how the event will go.

At around 2:15am, we arrived at the Star City parking (starting point of the 5km category). We started rolling our boots to get the job done (and take some pictures too!).
Around 530AM, we close our booth to have time for the transfer of the bags to MOA and to avoid the huge crowd of runners.

Unfortunately, as we are heading to our bus that will en-route us to MOA (finish line), we found out that the bus was not there! We decided to take a ride with the trucks that carries the cartons full of bags. But not all can't make a ride to the trucks as other marshalls have to ride into it. So a small group including me decided to take the challenge to run/jog and make past to all runners because we need to set up the cartons before they come up.

Luckily, we do not encounter any major problems on our side. All the bags that we get were claimed (not sure in other  booths though).  No accidents. It was clean, peaceful and fun run.

"We did it - 116,000, the world record is 110,000, and we did it because everyone worked together," - Gina Lopez, managing director, ABS-CBN Foundation.

IST 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River Team

And so, as we wrap up the day. Our bosses treat us at Bigby's MOA for lunch! That was such a great event! World record was just a bonus because the main thing here is we have again a high hopes that our very own Pasig River will come back to its own state before. Let us not forget what we're running for. We can bring back the Old Manila. The clean manila bay, pasig river, esteros etc.

All set for 11.20.2011?

Is the ABS-CBN foundation ready for another major race day? Here's a bit of information I've gathered in their FB page
